Sales a plenty at Matalan

From the day Matalan started back in 1985 the company's mission has always stayed the same; to provide outstanding value for modern families. Effective store operations have to underpin this mission and managing the sales activities at such a major clothing retailer can be understandably very demanding.  At Matalan, the central buying and merchandising teams identify items to be driven through promotional sales activities.  Sales operations then have the time-consuming task of marking down these items with promotional pricing labels, which can often become labour intensive and, particularly at peak sales events, can take store colleagues away from servicing the customers. "We were looking for a cost-effective way of automating the price marking process says Michelle Barkess", IT Director, Matalan.  


By introducing handheld terminals, store users can now check item prices easily across the sales floor. And replacing the previous paper-based price change reporting process with automated mobile price management software has delivered benefits across store operations.  "We commissioned Mobilis Consulting in November to develop our mobile software and were using handheld terminals in a pilot store for Christmas sales", says Michelle Barkess.  "Now store colleagues have access to a range of price applications on their mobile computers - price enquiries, audits and sales preparation tasks have all been simplified and we have a scalable platform that will serve our business for years to come".
